About

I did my Graduation in Mechanical Engineering from GBPUAT-Pantnagar (http://gbpuat.ac.in/acads/ct/index.htm in 1991), MBA from Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta (www.iimcal.ac.in in 1997). My 2010-11 Fulbright Fellowship with Prof Thomas Reardon at Michigan State University (http://www.aec.msu.edu/grad/agribusiness.htm) and Prof Greg Baker at Santa Clara University (http://www.scu.edu/business/fai/) dealt with 'Interface between Modern Food Retail and Agri-value chains'.

My teaching / research work / case studies focus on agri-food supply chains: setting up of backward and forward market linkages, analysis of regulatory policies, public-private partnerships, innovative agri-business models in emerging markets, evolving food consumption patterns, farmers and consumer impact studies. I recently finished a consulting assignment for ACDI-VOCA (funded by Gates Foundation)  titled 'The Road Map: Linking small holder farmers to markets' and a case study on 'Bharti Filed's Fresh Supply Chain Strategies in India' along with Prof K Sudhir of Yale University. Presently, I am working on 'Reengineering of Apple Value chain in India' as done by Adani Agri Fresh with Prof Greg Baker of SCU, 'Gender studies/women empowerment in agriculture' with Prof Sameer Prasad at University of Madison and ICT enablement of Supply Chain.

Before joining academics full time, I worked with leading consumer durable MNC's and Indian companies handling their supply-chain, sales, distribution, branding and MIS functions.

My family includes my wife, Dr Deepali Tewari, a  Horticulture-extension specialist working with the same university i.e. GBPUAT-Pantnagar. She researches on ICT enabled agri-extension models, vegetable breeding especially off-season cultivation.

We have a curious, enthusiastic, lovable 9 years old son 'Paritosh (Sunny)' who is the fulcrum of our life and a sweet, playful, stress-buster pomerian dog 'Frenny'.

Reading, country music, gardening, travelling and cricket is what keeps my adrenalin flowing.
